My Favorite Pattern

If you have been to the store, you may know already which pattern we will be talking about. I am talking about our infamous Modern Wave!

The reason we, and many of our customers love this pattern is due to movement. It can make a whole cloth quilt come to life, and it does wonders for a pieced quilt. It is also one of the only patterns that I have seen that adds depth to a flat piece of fabric. In fact, the only project that I have done for myself is a whole cloth with this pattern on it. With it being my own, I had to add a little extra to it.

The ability to build from this pantograph is what I like most about it. Simply adding random circles after finishing the quilt can bring a completely new dimension. The possibilities are extensive.

This pattern is also a reason that we don’t post as often as we would like on social media. It isn’t only popular with me. I can say for certain that I quilt this pattern more than any other. It would get rather boring to see Modern Wave every day on social media, not to say I don’t have enough photos for it!

On average, a quilt can shrink by a quarter of an inch per row. A quarter inch each for ten rows can lead to issues at the bottom of a quilt. This pattern quilts out a bit differently though. Rather than going from left to right across the entire row, it quilts top to bottom. Essentially smoothing out any bunched up fabric that might be caused by the quilt shrinking up slightly.

One of these days, we will get Eva to write about her favorite pattern!
